Very often, herbs supplies are obtained by acquiring them at the local supermarket where the transport of these plants, storage and the time they are made available to the buying public may have lost a bit of the freshness. You can assure freshness and availability by growing them yourself. In the case of colder weather or the lack of space to pursue this practical and tasty goal, then you can easily start growing herbs in pots and various containers directly inside of your home until the warmer climate lets you spread out ouside of the house.

Most varieties of herbs will do very well in pots and requires minimal care. Some factors to consider are good potting soil, sunlight. Certain varieties of herbs are rather aggressive that it is almost difficult not to grow them successfully.

A great place to set up your interior herb garden is definitively the kitchen. Many will start off in this delightful and practical hobby with herbs and generally grown for culinary purpose so having fresh growing herbs nearby in the kitchen can be very handy. One you start, you will find that fresh herbs are quite different than dry or even store bought fresh herbs in both flavor and quality, and as you make it a habit of cooking and preparing meals with the ones growing in your kitchen, you”ll wonder how you ever got by using store bought dried herbs.

Although various recycled containers of all type can do the job quite well, you can also buy a plastic window box or a bunch of attractive glazed pots that can be placed in a sunny area. Windowsill, a patio or near the back door in or near the kitchen are places of choice. Use a good potting soil as recommended on the seeds envelope with a good mix of sand and gravel to assure good drainage. Be sure to use drainage plates underneath the pots to avoid any mess.

There are herbs that grows and spread very quickly that it may be a good idea to isolate them from other plants rather than mixing them with other herbs. Mint. lemon balm and herbs such as pennyroyal and hoytunia that tends to cover the entire surface are among herbs that should be grown in their own individual pots.

Then you have other herbs that, planted together in a large container, will result in an attractive mix. Beautiful combinations are obtained by using herbs such as chives and variegated oregano, french tarragon and purple basil, parsley with thyme and also sage along with summer savory.

Another advantage of growing herbs in pots or containers is the possibility of moving them around. They can be placed according to their need for sunlight which varies during the day or you might want to bring them outside during nice warm sunny days.
Many arrangements can be made simply by changing them around every so often.

They look great inside a home or outside in the garden, the herbs and containers always add a nice touch on patios or in a solarium. The potted plants can be placed in a decorative fashion to complement their surroundings very nicely. The major concern to keep in mind is that herbs needs sunlight so proper placement is important.

If you look around, you can easily find many various containers that can be recycled and decorated to your taste before planting the herbs. Great designs to inspire you are widely available in magazines and on the internet.

So have some fun with your project and not only will it add beauty to your surrounding, sweeten the air with sweet fragrances but your household will always eat fresh herbs.

If you are looking to decorate or redecorate your dining room, a new dining table set would be the best place to start. A dining table and attached chairs and accessories is the core of your dining room design, and as such weighs heavily on the room’s overall style. As such, always be aware of all your options before you buy a set, and give factors other then price their fitting credence before you buy.

While making your final decision, consider first the choice of material: not all table sets are the same, and material more then anything greatly influences the style of the entire piece; not to mention, your choice of material says a great deal about you as well. Wood dining tables and chairs are the traditionalist’s choice: they are good looking, durable, and can be molded into any shape imaginable. They can also fit the widest variety of styles. Glass covered dining tables are the more modern approach to dining room design: they are sturdy and sleek, and infer an air of transparency and openness to your room.

Dining tables come in a great variety of shapes and sizes as well: those traditionally consist of round and square or rectangular, though less orthodox shapes exist as well. Most dining tables can come with extensions to quickly transform their shape depending on space available and your overall design direction.

Chairs usually come with most dining room sets, and as a rule match their attached table well enough by themselves, although exceptions are known to occur and as such you would be wise to look into the chairs you are getting and make sure they match the style you are creating.

Once you are set on the style of your dining table set, consider price next. If you are looking for the best deals, check online stores and auctions first, well before you leave your house. Not only are the prices as a rule uniformly better, you will also find it far easier to go from store to store to compare prices and selection. Indeed, you can find some great square and glass or round wood dining tables on sale, and everything in between.

Advice on choosing the best dining table set for you.

With new homes getting smaller & smaller single beds are becoming more & more popular. Not just for children, single beds are used as spare beds for overnight guests, or as twin beds by married couples wanting a better nights sleep, or even as the main bed in a studio flat or the small bedroom of a shared flat.  So, what are the available options? High street shops have limited choice, for a better selection it might be pay to have a look on the internet.

Single beds come in 3 sizes, a child’s bed size, 80cm x 190cm, a UK single bed size of 90cm x 190cm or a European single size which is 90cm x 200cm. All sizes are easy to buy mattresses for, & bed linen for European singles can be found at Ikea, Habitat & online. Until fairly recently single beds for adults were usually the divan bed style, but now other styles are becoming more common, especially online.

Bed frames in metal or wood with a slatted beech base can be an inexpensive, easily available choice & have the advantage of having room underneath to store boxes etc, unlike divan beds. Traditional Pine & white painted wood are always popular as they will fit in with most colour schemes.

Bed frames in metal fit into two categories, traditional or modern. Traditional bed frames in black or white painted iron (either antique or new) with crisp white bed linen can make a beautiful design statement, & the antique French or English ones can be pricey & upmarket enough for even the most discerning buyer. Modern metal beds are a different story, however. They are usually cheap to make, not particularly well designed. The very plain ones are good if you are after a masculine look, on a budget, but some of the supposed ‘designer’ metal beds can look anything but designer.

New(ish) in the UK market is the single storage bed, which has a lift up slatted mattress base (usually with a hydraulic gas lift) & sealed storage inside the entire bed base. These are a great idea, after all if there isn’t enough space for a double bed then extra storage is always going to be welcome.  Some UK manufacturers make divan storage beds, which are good value, however if you are looking for something more distinctive there are plenty of other styles from Italy.

Not normally found on the high street, Italian beds are starting to really gain market share despite being more expensive than most of the usual single beds for sale, as there is an extensive choices of styles, materials & colours, with that reknowned quality & Italian design. For those willing to pay for something a little better these can be an excellent option.

Italian single beds are good for tall people too, at 200cm long they are 10cm longer than UK single beds. Mattresses are easy enough to buy & that extra 10cm length should be enough for even the tallest adult.

Great extras, like guest beds hidden in the base are popular too. The hidden beds have a good mattress, with a spring base & are comfortable enough to be used by adults – although using the second bed every day is probably not advisable. The second bed is accessed by lifting up the side of the main bed & pulling the spare bed out, then sliding the frame so the bed is the correct height.

Some single beds can also be ordered to look more like a sofa than a bed, with a back & two sides instead of just a headboard at one end. Choosing a bed like this allows you to have it in a sitting room, hall or study as to most people it just looks like a sofa, especially with matching mattress cover & some scatter cushions or a bolster at each end.

As you can see, there is plenty of choice, but to find some of these beds you will need to get busy online.  Whether you want to buy a single bed for guests or for yourself take time to choose the right bed as these days there is no excuse for not getting a bed.

To find your perfect contemporary single bed look online at Go Modern. Go Modern have a great selection of single beds from Italy, as well as storage beds in all sizes & matching bedroom furniture.

Herb plants come in annuals, perennials, and biennials like other types of plants. There are so many different types of herbs and each one is different. If you are interested in a specific type of herb, you should research that one to understand the care it needs and how to use it properly. This article will get you started in understanding general different types of herb plants and what they are used for.

Annuals like basil, cilantro, and summer savory will not survive a frost. They need to be planted from a seed or a small plant every year. Perennials like sage and winter savory can survive colder temperatures and will return year after year. Biennial herbs are plants that form leaves in their first growing season and flowers and seed in the second season, then die. Biennial herbs like parsley, angelica, or caraway should be sown in late spring directly into the garden. Prepare the soil first by working it to a fine texture and wet it slightly. Plant the seeds in shallow rows then firm the soil on top of them. Fine seeds can be planted in a mixture of sand which will allow them to spread more evenly. You can also cover the bed with wet burlap or paper in order to keep the soil moist during germination.

Herbs are also grouped into the categories for which they are used. Culinary herbs are probably the most useful to herb gardeners. They have a huge range of different uses in cooking. Because of their strong flavors, herbs like chives, thyme, basil, sage, savory, and marjoram are generally used in small quantities to add flavor to different types of food. Parsley is an extremely popular herb that is used mostly as a garnish. Aromatic herbs have pleasant smelling flowers or foliage. Oils from aromatic herbs like loyage, mint, and rosemary can be used to make different types of perfumes, toilet water, or other various scents. Parts of aromatic herb plants used intact can also be used in the home to scent linens or clothing. They can also be dried and made into potpourri which will enable them to be able to retain their aroma for a long period of time. Lavender and lemon verbena are great herbs to use for potpourri. Some herbs are also used for medicinal purposes. For centuries herbs have been thought to have the ability to cure the body. Present medical knowledge recognizes that some herbs are beneficial to one’s health, others are overrated. Herbs used for medicinal purposes should be used carefully. Some herbs are harmless but others can be dangerous if eaten.

Some herbs are not used for their flavor, power to heal or fragrance. Some herbs are also used for their beauty. Ornamental herbs have brightly colored flowers and foliage. Many have whitish or various light colored flowers like valerian which has crimson blossoms and borage and chicory which grow gorgeous blue flowers.

While herbs can be categorized into these different categories of uses, many herbs have multiple purposes. For example, mint may be used for cooking, tea, and pest control. Whatever the reason you have an interest in herbs, by understanding herb garden plants you are able to pick the herbs that will be most useful to you.
