Nickel and Chrome cabinet hardware has been a popular choice for kitchens and bathrooms because it is easy to match with most existing hardware (such as faucets) and appliances. Chrome has been popular in the United States since the 1930’s and has remained popular because of its resistance to tarnish. Nickel finishes can vary from polished (shiny) to a brushed (matte) tone and is a nice choice because it does not usually require extra maintenance. Nickel and chrome cabinet knobs offer a wide variety of designs and styles to choose from and can be used to create or enhance your existing decorating theme.

When deciding between nickel and chrome finishes it is important to keep in mind other hardware in the room and create a common theme. Brushed nickel finishes can vary more than polished chrome between manufacturers so it is sometimes more difficult to match individual pieces in this finish (although an exact match is not necessary to create a common theme and varying the colors slightly can add extra interest to a room rather than keeping all of the hardware the same). Brushed (or satin) nickel finishes offer the advantage of being more resistant to showing use (such as fingerprints) or natural wear and tear (like scratches) over time because of the more muted color.

Replacing your existing cabinet knobs and pulls with chrome or nickel knobs offers a great opportunity to update your kitchen and bathroom (or any other room in your house!) with new and exciting patterns and designs. Although sometimes considered more modern or contemporary in nature, chrome and nickel finishes are available in a range of designs from simple to extremely ornate. Simply replacing the knobs can bring a new and fresh look to your home without needing to redecorate the entire house. Introducing polished chrome or nickel doorknob sets and lighting is a great way to further enhance your theme and create a more unified look.

Nickel and Chrome cabinet hardware is a wonderful way to replace your older hardware and create an exciting new look for your home. Search for solid brass construction to ensure high quality and strength and be sure to ask questions. Many cabinet knobs available have coordinating or complementary pulls available as well. LookInTheAttic & Company offers a wide selection of great chrome and nickel knobs as well as doorknob sets, window and home hardware – they also offer free design assistance and help. Choosing new hardware for the home is a fun and creative way to reflect your unique personality in unexpected places.

My problem currently is lack of outside storage space for the kind of equipment my wife will not let me store indoors. You know the kind of thing I mean. Electric drills, lawnmower, folding workbench, hammers, saws and various other woodworking equipment. Us fellas like to keep those boxes of screws and hinges. You never know when they are going to be needed. Right?

The problem I have as well is I am not very good at deciding when to throw things away and which I am sure I will probably never need again. The trouble with accumulating stuff in this way is, eventually you will run out of storage space. Then you will either need a bigger shed, or have to de-clutter the one you already have.

Well, the shed I own was showing signs of decay and parts of it were in various stages of rot. So I am due for a new shed anyway. After looking at off the shelf sheds, and comparing prices, I decided to build my own. There are lots of different factors to think about when comparing prices in this way, so take your time and get it right.

I went out and bought some small shed plans and went ahead and built it, carefully following the plans and blueprint I was given. I took my time and enjoyed the project. It gave me a great deal of satisfaction when I finished it, and just standing there seeing the small shed completed in front of me, I felt proud of my achievement.

I am sure if I could construct a small shed from plans and a blueprint, other people could as well. All it takes is the time and commitment to try.

For many more shed plans, woodworking patterns, and a free shed plan as well, visit My Shed Plans. There is also a video showing you how two guys put together a large outdoor shed in thirty three minutes.

When choosing a non slip rug pad, most people just care to keep their rug from slipping. This can lead to purchasing the least expensive non slip rug pad. If you have concern for your floors, it is important not to just buy a non slip rug pad based solely on price. There are many non slip rug pads available that have been known to be harmful to floors such as sticking or marking their design right onto the floor.

When we think of the typical non slip rug pad, we tend to think of the pad with holes. This type of non slip rug pad does hold rugs to the floor yet there are variations of this pad and some of these cause damage to hard floors and eventually stop working. One of the main reasons that some non slip rug pads cause damage to floors is that they are constructed of a polyester or pvc plastic that is usually sprayed with some sort of adhesive to create the non slip function. Imagine this adhesive to act like paint. Well, in many cases of use, this adhesive wears off of the material and ends up marking your floor.

The above type of non slip pad is relatively inexpensive to make and is made quickly, hence the inexpensive price point. For those looking to buy a non slip pad based only on price, go for it yet be prepared to possibly have to refinish your floors at some point in time.  Personally, I think it is best to make sure the non slip rug pad you choose is safe for all floors and rugs while continuing to provide a non slip function. This may cost a little more yet will prove to be the best choice in the long run.

Another type of non slip pad is one that is solid with a jute surface and a non slip backing. Here, the damage can arise from the backing. There are different ways to manufacture this non slip rug pad and again, the less expensive way costs less to buy yet is a more risky decision for your floors. The non slip backing on many of these pads is a sprayed on adhesive that may look and feel like rubber. The problem is that this adhesive spray does not adhere well enough to the surface of the pad and eventually breaks down and can mark your floor.

You can find quality non slip rug pads that are safe for floors and rugs. Rug Pad Corner is a great online source of three types of quality rug pads. Wherever you shop for non slip rug pads, it is best to make sure the pad is made of quality.

1. Use it on something or give it away to somebody else who can use it. I have many gallons of perfectly good paint in my basement and occasionally I will come across a job that I could use a good bit of it up on, or, a family member or friend will have a project that they will need some paint for and I can help them out.

2. See if a local production company or school would want the paint as a donation to their arts/production class. Many schools need paint donations to create scenery and backdrops for their school plays and art shows.

3. For many municipalities around the country (including mine) you are allowed to throw away old paint in the trash as long as it is no longer a liquid. The paint has to be dried out completely before you can throw it away. There are several ways to dry out paint quickly. If you have an empty corner of your garage, shed, or a dry basement, then you can simply take the lids off and wait for them to dry out. Other options are to mix old kitty litter or sawdust into the paint, this will dry them out very quickly. Always be sure to find out what the local rule is about disposing of paint. Usually your local paint store should be able to give you direction in this matter.

4. Pay to have it disposed of at dump as toxic waste disposal. Paint is really not that harmful to the environment (especially newer paints) since most of the ingredients in paint come naturally from the earth, however, dumps will charge you and arm and a leg to dispose of it.

5. Take off all labels and manufacturer identifying features from the can, put a dot on the lid to show what color is inside, then sell it at a flea market or yard sale. People are always happy to get decent paint at a low price.

Looking forward to2010,there are many trends in home décor, one major trend among all the others is glass, colored, stained, art and murano. We’ve been seeing this trend making its way into residential design over the last few years and as homeowners become more comfortable with color, the use of vibrant tones in more permanent areas such as lighting and plumbing fixtures will increase.

No doubt you’ve all noticed the wide array of decorative mini pendants in a multitude of shades installed in kitchens and bars over countertops and islands. This trend will continue and increase. We will see an increase in the use of glass and enamel as decorative elements over textiles and fabrics, and an increase of iridescent colors which can be attributed directly to the lighting industry and LED technology. LED lights are now seen in every aspect of home décor, including wall art and plumbing fixtures.

New trends in colors for interior design are also an important consideration for us all when working on both residential and commercial projects. We will be seeing an increase of warm neutral tones such as terracotta, browns, golds, honey and wheat. Reds will maintain their popularity in the richer, deeper tones as well as those with a blue tint but pinks will phase out and we will see mauve shades return along with shades of aqua. Greens will make a come back in shades of mint, lime, alpine, pale honeydew and hunter. Metallics will turn to gold and bronze shimmer.

Overall, we can expect to see simpler shapes and fewer embellishments as we begin to look to our homes to be a refuge from our hectic and complicated lives more so than ever before. Over-the-top opulence and the Hollywood inspired luxury will continue with finely crafted details and higher sheens on distressed pieces. Look for recycled materials to be gaining in popularity as the green movement gains momentum. Homeowners will be continuing to look to their personal spaces to be comfortable and comforting and their choices in lighting  and home decor will reflect their evolving consciousness of both family and world affairs.
