Tin ceilings are an absolutely addition to any home. They are without a doubt the one extra expense I would Anne up for. This type ceilings really ads depth to a trey ceiling. They come in all kinds of custom colors and you can get them painted to match any room in your home. If you like the look of doing the whole ceiling this is OK or you can just do part of the ceiling and trim it out. I especially like this because this makes them so versatile to use. Their are companies that will custom paint your tin panels and custom paint your tin crown molding to match. Tin panels can also be used for the back splash in your kitchen. The uses for them are limited only by your imagination. These ceiling were used a lot in the 19Th century era. Consider working them into your interior design. Start by looking at pictures of tin ceiling and you will see what the big deal is for using them to ad beauty to your home. Below I have listed 3 reasons to consider tin ceiling are your unique ceiling designs of choice.

1. Victorian Era Tin Ceilings They will take you back to a different era in time when life was at a slower pace and style grace still abound. They were originally used in the Victorian-Era. They were made to replace a must heavier type plaster ceiling. Over time it seems to me that design got pushed to the back burner and people just went for larger homes. I myself had rather have a smaller home with plenty of architectural detail. Splurge on your interior design using tin ceilings in at least one room and I think with the end result you will be glad you did.

2. Ornamental Value of Tin Ceilings Panels come in just about any design or color so the ornamental value is very great. They make basic colors in gold, silver, black, white and some other basic colors but many companies will custom paint any color you want. This makes tin ceilings available in any color that you need. If you choose to go with a basic gold or silver then you can paint your walls any color. Custom colors are a little more daring but can ad a stunning focal point to your favorite room.

3. Efficiency Value of Tin Ceilings Besides the ornamental beauty of the tin ceilings they also ad efficiency to your heating system. Even after your heating unit kicks off the tin ceiling will help hold the heat longer. Tin tiles beside and above your fireplace can catch and reflect heat. They are also valuable for their flame resistance.

I guess you can tell that unique ceiling designs are very special to me and I love to design them. I have just started using the tin ceilings but that have become one of my favorite. I suggest that even if you choose not to use the tin ceiling idea at lease give them a look and you may find other design uses for the tin panels. they even make a beautiful wall. Remember to give your home that little extra special touch because it is who you are and

Are you like me and need some new decorating ideas that will not cost you a fortune? Here is one that I would like to share with you. That said I would like to ask you if you have ever thought of decorating with clocks. My favorite is using an inexpensive large wall clock and letting it stand alone as the focal point of the whole wall it occupies. Now days they make clocks as beautiful as any other piece of art and from what I have seen they can be bought cheaper.

Just a few facts below. Did you know:

Clocks have been around for thousands of years. They are used to break down the measurement of time. Did You know that there are:

86400 seconds in a day
3600 seconds in an hour
1440 minutes in a day
60 minutes in an hour
24 hours in a day

Just a little history. There are several reasons I have started using the inexpensive large wall clock. Here is a short list to name a few.

1. They are a large piece of art that dose not cost as much as a picture of the same size.
2. Some of the clocks they have today are prettier that the pictures they have on the market.
3. We all need a way to keep up with what time it is.
4. If you are like me and can not see good anymore then an inexpensive large wall clock could serve as a beautiful piece of art and an easy way of keeping up with the time.
5. They make wonderful gifts for birthdays or Christmas. They even have clocks now that talk and help kids learn to tell time.

The inexpensive large wall clocks are my favorite because they can be used in so many places and be the center of attention. A great focal point is a must have for any room. So why not one that will tell you the time also. A large clock can take over the whole wall without any help. It is a stand alone focal point. Here is just a partial list of the places you can use the inexpensive large wall clocks.

1.Living Rooms
2.Family Rooms
3.Master Bedrooms
4.Bedrooms
5.Kids Rooms
6.Study
7.Bathrooms
8 Porches
9.Entrance Ways
10.Hall Ways

Here’s a photo of some beautiful custom walnut dining furniture sent to us by Robert T in Connecticut.  Robert basically designed the buffet himself.  He started with our Large Vertical-Buffet Media Center and had us craft it with just one side cabinet instead of two.  He also increased the height of the unit from 60″H to 67″H.  I think it came our beautifully.

Robert also customized our Round Back Chair.  This is a chair we typically offer in cherry only, but Robert called to ask if we could craft it in walnut.  Since we only make this chair style a couple times each year he had to wait, but he was willing to do that and look how nice they turned out!

The dining room set was completed with our Modern Contemporary Dining Table in solid walnut.  The finish for the set is a hand-rubbed Danish oil.

Congrats to Robert for designing such a beautiful dining set.  Enjoy!

For many homeowners there comes the inevitable time when there is just too little space in his or her home.  Maybe there are more family members than there used to be, maybe the homeowner has taken on one too many hobbies, or maybe an adult child has decided to move back in.  There are a number of solutions to this problem which can be a drastic as moving to a new house, or as  (relatively) simple as knocking down or putting up a wall.  The addition of a “back room” may seem an obvious solution, but it brings along its own issues.  Any home renovation project that expands the footprint of the original structure will be subject to city and counting zoning laws, and it may be contrary to the goals of the home improvement project to decrease valuable yard space.  A home renovation that goes up, adding a room or an entire upper story might be a tempting project, but can also have its fair share of downsides.  One such con is that going up is an awfully big project just to add a studio or rec room.

What many people are discovering is that the not-so-obvious but extremely practical and economical solution is to go underground.  With many basements sitting cold, dark, and unused many people are sitting right on the extra space they’ve always dreamed of, which could be very useable with a relatively quick and painless home renovation project.

There are some quick questions to ask oneself before committing to a home renovation project like finishing the basement, such as how much it is currently used, and how much it will be used?  For what will the finished basement be used?  What is the spending limit for finishing the basement?  Who will do the actual home repairs, will it be you, or will you hire someone?  Once these basics have been worked out, there is a world of possibility for what that basement  space could be.  If hosting frequent guests, it may be a great area to house a spare bedroom and bathroom.  For those with lots of kids and their friends running around, basements make great big playrooms in the winter, and nice cool gathering spots in the summer.  Some households go the luxury route and add a home theater, exercise room, or hot tub under the house, while others just use the finished basement as more efficient storage or a laundry facility.

Whatever the finished basement is to be used for, before getting started on this home renovation project homeowners will want to consider a basement window replacement.  Letting lots of natural light down into a finished basement is really what changes it from a basement into another room of the home.  Homeowners may choose an awning windows window replacement, where windows crank out, slider windows which simply slide back and forth, or hopper windows, which tilt inside.  To make the house seem like it has an extra floor, some homeowners work with landscaping to add patio doors with lead right out of the basement.  However each individual homeowner decides to do it, finishing the basement is a home improvement project that will multiply the size of his or her home.

When starting a home renovation project, a great place to start is by getting advice from the Pros like those at Sears. From home repair to decoration, Sears helps homeowners improve their homes with affordable style.

Have you ever walked past a home with a solarium? If you have, you undoubtedly were amazed by the beauty and splendor created year round by a beautiful room dedicated to a tropical setting. A solarium is a great addition to any landscape, adding beautiful curb appeal to any home. Regardles of your climate, a solarium can be your solace throughout the dark days of winter, adding a room solely dedicated to getting the ultimate amount of sunlight from everyday. A solarium is not just a sunroom, surrounded by glass from top to bottom, east to west, it is the window to the world in a perfect 360 degree perspective. A solarium can create the perfect atmosphere and environment to fully appreciate mother nature all year round.

What is a solarium?

A solarium is an atrium style sunroom which is surrounded by panels of glass or clear plexi glass, extending onto the roof to create an environment accessible by every bit of sunlight. The solarium can be framed in wood, metal or aluminum depending on your climate. It can be a small addition to a porch or a complete front or side of the structure addition. It can also be a separate standing structure on your property, such as in your garden or next to a pool. To ensure you will be able to enjoy your solarium year round, the roof cover must be designed for local climates. In colder winter weather climates it is imperative to install the roof glass sloped so snow can easily slide off and not accumulate and add heavy weight. Sealing the joints in a solarium is also very important in order to ensure the heat inside stays and the cold outside stays out. Cold climates will likely require thermo pane glass for winter use. Insulating all exterior walls is imperative to keeping both cold and hot weather out and the perfect temperature climate within.

Can I install a solarium myself?

A solarium is a very large undertaking which will require a professional to install. Solariums require major construction, and as such must be approved by city ordinances. There are many variables involved in the overall construction as well as the design. Examples of construction variables are the use of straight or curved glass styles, and creating several different types of roofs such as a cathedral roof which is pointed, or a conservatory structure which is octangonal in shape. The options are limitless when it comes to design. Solariums can be all white in order to create the most amount of light within, or sandstone to achieve a ‘earthy’ atmosphere. You can have the exterior in any color aluminum and add a wooden structure frame interior or even be framed with bronzes for the added elegant fell. Getting a personalized quote for your specific needs and designs from a solarium expert in your area is your best bet for getting a idea of the price and time of your solarium project.

What can I expect to be able to grow year round in my solarium?

A well designed solarium will accommodate a wide range of plants and vegetation but will depend on your winter climate and sun exposure. Solariums or sunrooms are a great bridge between indoor and outdoor living. As such you’re best to consult an expert landscape designer and landscape construction company, so you can be assured your new sunroom lives up to your vision.

Adding a solarium to a already existing structure or building a freestanding solarium is a great way to enjoy your garden year round. Getting started with a professional to decide on the right location and construction will not only save you money, it will expand your options with a more creative input and design technics. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the look and atmosphere you are trying to create. All that will be left after you build it, will be the years of enjoyment from the beautiful indoor / outdoor living environment you have created.
