IP rating

A two-digit code describing how well a product resists dust and water ingress.

IP (Ingress Protection) ratings are a two-digit code, for example IPX4 or IPX7, where the first digit rates dust resistance and the second rates water resistance. For home appliances the water digit matters most: IPX4 means splash-resistant from any direction, while IPX7 means the item can survive brief full immersion. You'll see this spec most often on handheld and cordless vacuum accessories, and occasionally on appliance control panels installed near sinks or in wet utility rooms.
